APS CEO Jonathan Bagger leads the organization and its executive team.

    Jonathan A. Bagger

    Jonathan Bagger became the APS chief executive officer in January 2021. Accountable to the Board of Directors, he leads APS in advancing its mission across membership, meetings, publications, advocacy, operations, and finances.

    Bagger previously held leadership positions in the United States and Canada, including as director of TRIUMF, Canada’s particle accelerator center, and as vice and interim provost at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.

    Bagger has served on a variety of governance, editorial, and advisory boards in the U.S. and Canada. He has been a member of the faculty at Harvard, the University of British Columbia, and Johns Hopkins, where he held the Krieger-Eisenhower chair in physics and astronomy. He is a Fellow of both APS and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

    A particle theorist by training, Bagger’s research centers on high energy physics at the interface between theory and experiment. Together with Julius Wess, he is the author of the monograph Supersymmetry and Supergravity.

    Bagger holds a Ph.D. in physics from Princeton University, a master's degree in theoretical physics from the University of Cambridge, and bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College.
