Beth Gunzel
Chief Human Resources Officer Beth Gunzel leads APS human resources and ethics.
Beth Guerra Gunzel is the chief human resources officer at the American Physical Society, where she leads the organization’s human resources and ethics strategy.
In close partnership with the executive leadership team and stakeholders across the organization, she helps cultivate a people-centered, inclusive, and collaborative culture grounded in ethics, APS core values, and the Society’s code of conduct, fostering an environment where employees and members feel supported, engaged, and empowered.
Gunzel brings more than 25 years of human resources and people leadership experience across nonprofit, consulting, and professional services organizations. Prior to joining APS in 2019 as director of human resources, she served as managing director of people and culture at the Association for Financial Professionals, where she led human resources and professional development initiatives.
Earlier in her career, she held human resources leadership roles at APCO Worldwide, The Advisory Board Company, and KPMG. Across these organizations, she built expertise in talent management, organizational development, employee engagement, and culture transformation in complex, mission-driven environments.
Gunzel earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Louisiana State University and holds a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification from the Society of Human Resource Management and a Certified Professional (CP) certification from the Human Resource Certification Institute. She is active in her local community and can often be found crafting, volunteering, and cheering on the sidelines at her children’s various sporting activities.
