New for Summit 2027, the Entrepreneurship Workshop for Scientists and Engineers is a four-day, cohort-based program designed to help scientists and engineers explore how research and technical ideas can move toward commercialization and real-world applications.
Through hands-on instruction, mentorship, and collaborative team projects, participants will build practical skills in innovation, entrepreneurship, commercialization, and venture development while working alongside other researchers interested in translating science into impact.
Program experience
Participants will:
- Learn core entrepreneurship and commercialization concepts
- Explore how scientific research can be translated into products, technologies, and ventures
- Work collaboratively in teams to develop a business concept
- Receive guidance and mentorship throughout the workshop
- Build and refine a business pitch
- Present their ideas during a culminating a pitch competition in the Industry Session Room
- Receive feedback from a judging panel that includes industry and sponsor representatives
Who is this event for?
The workshop is designed for graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, early-career scientists, engineers, and other researchers interested in entrepreneurship, startups, innovation, and bringing scientific discoveries to market.
Pitch competition
The program culminates on Thursday, April 15 at 10:30 a.m. in the Industry Session Room, where participant teams will present the business concepts they developed during the workshop to a panel of judges.
The competition gives participants an opportunity to put what they have learned into practice, receive feedback from industry professionals, and showcase their ideas to the Summit community.
